On Labor Day, Hawaii had an opportunity to celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of many of our past, current, and future champions. Kalakaua Ave. access roads closed down at 5:30 from Ft. DeRussy to Kapiolani Park. The special Parade of Champions moved sluggishly down the avenue, often stalling for 5 to 10 minutes. At times this became somewhat annoying, especially so if you happened to have a large diesel powered truck idling near by. Some band members carrying heavy instruments also seemed uncomfortable with the delays.

The timely opportunity to see and applaud our athletes far surpassed any discomforts. It was truly a pleasure to see all the smiles parade though Waikiki.

The featured photographs include Waipio Little League World Champions, Women’s Olympic Soccer Gold medal winner Natasha Kai, Women’s Olympic Indoor Volleyball Silver medalist Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, and Clarissa Chun. Clarissa did an excellent job representing Hawaii and the United States in the Women’s Olympic Freestyle Wrestling.

Fun seeing the local stars. Yes, the parades lately have been kinda long with delays.
