Hawaii residents protest proposed and recent tax increases at the state capitol in Honolulu. Numerous new taxes were considered and moved along to committees. A new sales tax for Hawaii counties was also moved forward. Internet shoppers were also targets of the new tax proposals. Hotel guests, smokers, motorists, and higher income individuals were also targeted. House bill 1550 was also a shock to those who were paying attention to the legislator's actions. Rollover state income tax would impose tax on rollovers made by employees of state and county agencies. The bill also affects tax-exempt orginizations.
Conspicuously absent from the event were Governor Linda Lingle, Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, and Honolulu Mayor Muffi Hanneman.
The event was in concert with a nation wide endeavor to show objection for new state and federal actions.
New tax initiatives were the focal point of the Honolulu Tea Party.
